31/365 One Month Down!

I think I may have found my assistant. I had a blast taking pictures with my little boy. He was taking his job very seriously.

I just took both of these. The bud on the tree looks promising, I could use some spring about now...and so could my car. It almost looks like it is crying! I think it has snowed 6in. since I woke up this morning. Fun. In case you couldn't tell that fun was sarcastic...

I snapped this one of Brett this morning. He is moving up to the preschool room at daycare. He was in the preschool room for a couple of hours on Wednesday and loved it. This morning he insisted on wearing his bookbag on his back, and we had to bring a lunch box today too...like the "big" kids. He is too cute!

For my son's birthday on Saturday he got a "Flash" costume. He has worn it everyday, several times a day. As soon as he puts it on he starts running. He and my husband race. Flash always wins...I have such a good husband:). Both of them have been sleeping soundly at night... I should have bought this costume a long time ago.

During one of these many races. I started thinking about the shutter speed on my camera. It usually is what messes up my pictures. I thought maybe I could make friends it, and it would stop ruining perfectly good pictures. I was wrong. I tried to set the speed slow to give my son, excuse me, "Flash", the appearance of running super fast. I could not get the look I was going for, but here is one I'll share. Luckily it looks like this game is here to stay, so I will have lot's more chances to practice!

An unexpected day at home proved to be just what the doctor ordered, so did this chicken noodle soup. YUM! This was my new years resolution last year...to learn how to cook more homeade meals and baked goods, learn how to can and eat more local and organic foods. I did pretty well. I am hoping to continue this resolution this year. I learned a lot, including the recipe for this chicken noodle soup from The Pioneer Woman. She "helped" me out a lot last year in the kitchen and with photography. She really does it all. You can check out her site here if you are interested... http://www.thepioneerwoman.com/

Her food photography puts mine to shame, but hey a girl can try right?

Is it really only Tuesday?

Here is one for all the Carla fans that read :). I played around with a lot of different edits on this one, but I liked the "clean" edit the best. Eventhough when I took the picture I thought for sure I would love it in black and white. It has kind of a funky angle, but if you know Carla, it's her. Here you go sis-ta! Happy Monday.

I went for a drive today with a fellow photographer, looking for some scenery pictures. I learned that don't really have an "eye" for scenery or landscape photos. I did get this one, of some ducks. I can't help but think that they are the dumbest ducks alive. It is about 5 degrees out. This is the only bit of unfrozen water. The rest of the lake is frozen solid. There were even some ice fishers out. Don't even get me started on them... Why don't these ducks fly south for the winter? Of course, then I must ask myself, why I don't fly south. Brrrr. Here's to a warm toasty afternoon inside!

So much snow!! I have such a love hate relationship with the snow. Some days I look at it and think how pretty it is and how fun it is to look at, other days I hate it! Today I hate it. It was freezing out. I dropped my keys in the snow and had to dig for them with my ungloved hands. I am not sure I have recovered yet. It happend this morning. Here's to a better snow day tomorrow...

When I started the 365 project I thought "what a great way to document daily life". Well I am not sure you get any more "life" than this one. If you couldn't guess we have been potty training. Also note the new shoes. Since before Christmas I have been in denial of Brett needing new shoes. I have been stuffing his feet into his old ones and pretending I didn't notice that they didn't fit anymore, like any good mom does. He hardly ever wears shoes these days with all the snow anyway. Finally, this weekend I realized this has gone on long enough, and ordered him a new pair. Yes ordered them, I have this thing about shoes with characters on them. I hate them, and I know if I take him into the store he will want some, and I will cave, and buy them for him. Last time we went shoe shopping we almost came home with sparkly ballet slippers like his friend Lilly. They were pretty cute. Too bad I didn't have my camera THAT day!

Anyway, the new shoes. They came in the mail today. He was as excited as he was Christmas morning. He refuses to take off the tag. He has asked if he can sleep in them tonight. I may have said yes. Partially because I feel so guilty for not getting him new ones sooner...and partially because he looks so stinkin' cute in them.

Sorry this one is a day late. I layed down with the boy last night and fell asleep! Here is another practice portrait. I tried a different room in my house, and a 45 degree angle. I think the lighting is better, but Brett was not cooperating! He would only pose with the bear, because I was practicing with the bear before I brought him into the picture. Bear sat very still. Brett did not. He was moving around so fast I got some blurred shots, but I think this one turned out cute. The background is just a blanket from our bed hung over the back of our couch. I promise no more portraits this week, or at least until Sunday. Hey, practice makes perfect...

Another try at portrait pictures, and learning how to use a template in photoshop. I downloaded these free templates from Florabella. I was so proud that I figured out how to use them. Just thought I would share. One is a card and the other a bookmark!

I thought I would try some portrait pictures of my son to give out at his third birthday party next week. The background is his superman sleeping bag. I tried to use natural light from my living room window. These are the best I got. He would not stand still!!!! They are not as in focus as I had hoped and the light is a little harsh on the right, but he is still cute! This kind of picture is my goal for the winter months. There has got to be a good place in my house to take pictures, I am determined to find it!

More snowflakes! Out of about 50 tries today I got this one. I can not figure out why the original is so blue, but I kind of like it. I ran a black and white action on the other one to get a white snowflake. I could not decide which one I liked better. I took this one of a snowflake on my car window, while Brett was throwing snowballs at me. I can't figure out why this was the only one in focus ;)

Well I tried my hand at a snowflake macro...at least I know I have at least two more months of snow to work on this skill. It was much harder to do than I thought. Off to read up on snowflake tips!

This is a favorite game in our house. To play you need lots of balls of various sizes...bouncy balls work great, but the bigger ones hurt if they get you in the head, and an empty hallway. One person sits at each end of the hallway and bounces the balls back and fourth. Hours of entertainment for any three or thirty-three year old. Every time I look at a runner for the hallway I don't end up getting it because of this game...or so I tell myself...or it may be because I can't ever make up mind...whichever you want to believe.

On another note...If you are thinking about joining clickin moms, and I really think you should think about it... use the code FRIEND for 20% off. Just click on the button on the bottom of this page to get there!

We did some painting. Look at that concentration! There is nothing quite like a masterpiece made by your own child to make you smile everyday!

So this is not a new picture it is from Christmas, but I just "found" it on my computer. It was extremely underexposed almost to the point of not being able to see anything in the picture. It was the first shot out of the camera that day, before I even checked my settings. Somehow it managed to be missed my some of my deleting sessions since then. So when I saw it this morning I thought I would see what I could do to it in photoshop. Luckily I shot in raw so I could do a lot to save exposure, etc. It turned out to be really grainy, but something about how his eyes looked in the photo still intrigued me. So I kept playing. It is not the clearest picture, but I think it shows how sometimes noise can add to the picture. It almost looks like a texture. Just thought I would share...maybe a not so perfect picture at first glance can turn into something worth keeping. Happy Saturday! Good luck everyone with the 365, one week down!
...just edited to add the original for comparison.

Here is an interesting one. I was playing around with my son's magnifying glass, or as his calls it his spydafying glass. Just thought it was different.

Just boots. I told myself when I started that I was going to capture the simple things in my life. Here is one. I was sitting in my chair and saw our boots sitting there. I am sure my husband put them like that because I most likely kicked them off and left them as the fell. I put the camera on the ground, aimed it at the boots and just pushed the button. I just like how this picture turned out, and it really portrays "simple".

So how exactly does ones hair do this? What is it that makes my son's hair look like this every morning? Even after his new hair cut he still manages to get it too stick up somewhere. It is impossible to get it to lay down unless totally wetting it down (which he hates). It sure is cute though. I have to say before starting this project I would not have taken the time to take a picture of it and now I am so glad I did. What if there was one day he woke up and it was not sticking up, oh how I would miss it! Now it is captured forever~ Happy 5 days in!

Just one more...

I am currently obsessed with http://www.myfourhensphotography.com/. I have playing around with her preset actions. I am usually a clean edit type of gal, but I am avoiding the winter blues by playing in photoshop...and avoiding cleaning my house... two birds with one stone! Here is the same tub shot, but with an action run on it...called wild mushrooms.

Thank you to all my followers! It was very encouraging to log on and find that I had 19 people counting on me to post everyday. Thank you for the extra incentive. Here are some bathtime shots I took yesterday. I think in order for me to be able to do this I am going to have to be a day behind in my posts. Meaning take the picture one day and post the next. Otherwise, I just don't know if I can keep up. I hope that is not considered "cheating"...

Anyway here are some bathtub shots. I was playing around with my speedlite and bouncing it off the ceiling and the wall. I love his expression in the middle shot. I need to learn how to do a better picture collage for the web. Bathtub picture time was successful because he could not run away... I would highly recommend to anyone with a lively toddler! Enjoy!

So this is my current favorite. I love the way the edit turned out. It makes me sad to look at because I remember taking pictures of these feet three years ago...and they were so tiny. When did my babies feet get so big? When did he grow up? Time really does go by fast...

Happy New Year!

Well, why not try the 365 challenge until I fail? Then I can switch to the challenge 52... I took this at my mother in laws today. The blueberries are just waiting to be dropped into a delicious oatmeal pancake...and then into my belly. How come pancakes taste so good, and then give you such a stomach ache after eating them? Of course this does not stop me from eating them again, and again, and again...
